Occupational Therapy
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy is focused on helping individuals of all ages perform daily activities that are meaningful and essential to their lives. Occupational therapists work with people with physical, sensory, or cognitive challenges to enhance their ability to participate in everyday tasks and improve their quality of life. Occupational therapy includes:
- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): OT focuses on improving skills necessary for everyday tasks such as dressing, bathing, eating, and personal hygiene.
- Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs): These are more complex activities necessary for independent living, such as cooking and cleaning.
- Adaptive Equipment and Assistive Technology: Recommending and training individuals to use tools and devices that can help them perform tasks more easily and safely, such as wheelchairs, communication devices, and specialized utensils.
